My heart hurt after reading the below article and doing some research online.
I am talking about the gender pay gap in New Zealand and Japan a bit.
The pay gap in New Zealand
According to the above article, There are gender pay gaps in New Zealand between male and female. This article referred in medicine industry especially. If you would like to know how different they are, just read the article.
You will know one example the severe situation in medicine by reading it so I am writing what I am extremely feeling sad for.
There would be many female doctors who can not say whatever they want to say because the higher positioned male doctors undervalue. They can not say the fact they are underpaid even they are experienced as same as the colleagues. They are afraid of losing their job.
I do not think I understand all their feelings but I could do a little. That is so sad and I am so sorry about the facts.
That is obviously sexual harassment. What I am disappointed with the most is Why anybody does not raise their voice against it. They could know the harassment if they come across the scene of it.
However, regarding the pay gap, it would be difficult to find out the pay gap problems without disclosing all employee's salaries every year. I think this is a dirty trick because we do not make our wage public each other even though we are so close.
The Gender Gap in Japan
These gap problems are not only in New Zealand but in every country including Japan.
I thought there would be same problems in Japan so I checked Global Gender Gap Report 2020. The result was that Japan is more serious than New Zealand is and it is that I have never expected.
Japan's gender gap ranking is 121 out of 153 countries. New Zealand is 6th. Japan is not comparable to New Zealand.
Japan's ranking has been down gradually, it was 110 in 2018.
Actually, I heard some sexual problems on news. One example was the number of students passing the exam to enter University was manipulated. The number of successful female was limited even though all of them scored more than the minimum points.
Other, recent news, you would know about the comments from the top of Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It was terrible. He said sexual comments to female organizers despite his top position. Although people ask for his resigning the position and he did, but he did not look regret at all.
I can guess there would be these harassments anywhere in Japan. We just do not know them.
I might not be able to do something great to solve fundamentally the issues but I hope the no-disparity and try to do something when I come across these harassment.
